3Y0K: BOUVET ISLAND 2026 ---> "We are negotiating the vessel contract for a
DXpedition to Bouvet Island in the period November 2025 to February 2026.
Exact dates TBD.
The DXpedition team will consist of up to 20+ operators with extensive
experience in DXpedition and contesting.
The plan is to stay 3 weeks around Bouvet Island, and we will use a large
vessel and a helicopter to go to Bouvet.
The overall expedition budget is estimated to be in the order of $1,600,000
where we will team up with a small private group who will share the cost.
The trip will be fully financed upfront, but we will continue to seek dona-
tions from clubs and individuals to recover some of our expenses. At the
time of signing the contract we will launch a fundraising campaign, until
then we will not seek donations.
We are considering to setup two camps, one camp at Cape Fie and one camp
further west. The second QTH will be dedicated to give better conditions for
North America and can be as far west as Larsoya on the southwest side of the
island". Bookmark https://3y0k.com/ for updates.
CY9C: ST PAUL ISLAND ---> Preparations are underway for the CY9C DXpedition
to St. Paul Island (26 August-5 September). The team has secured a million
dollar liability insurance policy; they have tested equipment, packed gear
including antennas, tents and generators. Operators have made the first of
two financial commitments for what is anticipated to be the most costly CY9
DXpedition to date. Donations are always welcome to help off-set this cost
and can be made through https://t-rexsoftware.com/cy9c. Also, bookmark
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1455659374986029/ for updates.
ARRL SYSTEMS SERVICE DISRUPTION ---> "We are continuing to make progress on
restoring the ARRL network and many related systems and databases", the
latest update (14 June) reports. "While the Logbook of The World (LoTW)
server, Online DXCC, and related user data are secure and unaffected, we
have taken the precautionary measure of keeping the services offline until
we can ensure the security and integrity of our networks". Read the complete
update on https://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-systems-service-disruption.
FT4GL ---> Marek, FH4VVK shut down his operation from Glorioso a few minutes
before 20 UTC on 18 June. He, the support team and all the pilots, led by
F8FKI, faced significant challenges throughout this endeavour. "We regret
that, as is often the case when radio activities take place in rare coun-
tries, we have seen a negative spirit spread by some, such as unfounded com-
ments made anonymously, pirates and other music broadcasters on the trans-
mission frequencies... all these acts in no way reflect the ham spirit".
Nevertheless, most of the objectives have been achieved: more than 61,000
QSOs were made with nearly 15200 unique calls (25%), all the announced modes
and bands were used, only 160 metres was unsatisfactory. The statistics are
published on Club Log: https://clublog.org/charts/?c=FT4GL
J62K: YOUNG CONTEST OPERATORS WANTED ---> Team J62K promotes the Youth on
the Air (YOTA) programme, and is looking for "young team players that are
hams from the age of 18-30 for a 'first time' experience operating in a
Multi category environment". The trip will take place from 25 March to 1
April 2025, and will include participation in the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest. See
https://j62k.com/youth-on-the-air/ for more information and the application
form. The deadline for applications is 15 July.
PETER I ISLAND 2027 ---> "We plan to activate Peter I Island in February
2027 with a team of 19 operators. We have signed a financial agreement with
a private group about sharing the cost for this DXpedition. The DXpedition
budget and our share is around $825,000, of which we must deposit $340,000
in 2024". The landing permit from the Norwegian Polar Institute was received
in April; the callsign (3Y0L) will be confirmed later. The expedition is
expected to run from 28 January to 26 February 2027, including the voyage
from King George Island (South Shetlands) to Peter I and back. Plans are for
the team to go ashore with two helicopters and stay on the island for 14-18
days. Bookmark https://3y0l.com/ for updates.
